July 14, 2011 – Whitebox Studios. Every now and then we get a group of fun-loving, pretty teens at Whitebox Studios for a PUBLISHED! Photoshoot. This is one of the unique services that we provide to our clients, where they get a chance to be photographed by a professional photographer, and then their photos would be laid out and published in a magazine style booklet. Amy’s turning 17 and so she decided that having a magazine shoot would be an awesome experience and they definitely did have a great time! Check out some of the snapshots of the magazine:

In a PUBLISHED Photoshoot, you and your friends plan ahead for a theme, or a general look for the magazine. Amy wanted to name her magazine “Seventeen” as she is turning 17, but this “magazine shoot” is in no way affiliated with the Seventeen Magazine. Amy happily chose this wonderful little black dress photo with her 6 friends for the cover.

When you open up the magazine, Amy gets a full page of herself, ed’s note, and some sneak peeks. These templates are made by Karla Lim, and they’re customized for every client, so every client gets a different look for each magazine!

Friends get a profile, too! In the photoshoot, depending on the time, there would be a number of themes and outfit changes. Friends get a chance to get solo images of themselves as well, and usually lots of pairs with the celebrant, just like Amy’s friend profiles.

Then we head to the exciting editorial part. Some popular themes we’ve had include casual look, prom look, beach look and pajamas. Here’s a fun, flowery-summery look taken just outside Whitebox Studios. We can also go on a special location, depending on what the client is looking for.

These are just some snapshots of the 20-paged magazine that she had made for her birthday. We were very happy to see her and her friends bring in luggages of clothes and props into the studio. The balloons were really fun! Each of friends get a copy of the magazine too – we’re pretty flexible with the number as well!

July 8, 2011 – Whitebox Studios, Metro Vancouver Photo Rental Studio.

A number of times this year, Whitebox Studios hosted a number of photoshoots for Anaiss on Weddings, an elegant bridal boutique in Vancouver, B.C. If you remember their setup at the studio, you would notice the two creative set-ups they had, which divided the studio in half. One half would be for an editorial shoot, and another half would be for the catalogue. Whitebox Studios also provided the vinyl decal of the logo behind the models.

This Ad will be featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine in September (Fall and Winter) issue and The Knot magazine as well, and so we’re so excited!

Aaron Chung, the photographer, is extremely talented especially with the lighting setup! We’re so happy with his images from the studio! Check out this image he took using our beautiful white couch:

We thought it was ingenious for this team of talented photographers to split the studio into two sections! That way, they created a very efficient flow for the models and the stylists as well. We look forward to seeing more of their beautiful, elegant dresses at the studio!

July 6 2011 – Whitebox Studios. On Saturday August 6, 2011, Vancouver will again experience being photographed by film photographers and enthusiasts at the 12×12 Vancouver Photo Marathon. The event will start at English Bay, 10AM, and photographers will be given a marked roll of film containing 12 exposures. Every hour for the next 12 hours, a theme will be randomly drawn and released. Photographers capture an image per theme in one exposure. At 10PM, the negatives would be developed and judged and showcased at Photohaus Gallery.

THE 2011 12×12 VANCOUVER PHOTO MARATHON IS HAPPENING:
SATURDAY AUGUST 6TH, 2011 • 10AM – 10PM
URBAN RUSH CAFE & CATERING: 1040 DENMAN ST, VANCOUVER (ENGLISH BAY)

Just a 35mm film camera is needed to enter this event, and we, Whitebox Studios encourage photographers to try this exciting event. Perhaps, you’d go and practice shooting some film before starting this contest! Get your hands dirty and get out of your comfort zone. It’s definitely different shooting with film, and it helps photographers get back to the basics.

Starting tomorrow, July 6, 2011, tickets would be sold on Vancouver Photo Marathon website. We strongly advise everyone to be on their computer at 8PM July 6, to purchase the tickets because they will be gone, FAST! June 30, 2011 – Whitebox Studios. Every now and then we get talented students like Jesse Chia who come to have their portfolio photographed. Jesse is fashion stylist and designer, and he’s graduating this year the Art Institute of Vancouver. Aside from that, he’s also the marketing manager of the Vancouver-based fashion label Fala by Fala Chien. His final collection was photographed at the studio a little while ago, and we’re very happy to see the photos here:

Here’s some behind the scenes photos of how they created the looks. Jesse Chia and his crew also used our equipment during the shoot, and we rented a black background for them as well, but you can always recreated a dark effect by using the lights, like in our tutorial here.

June 27, 2011 – Whitebox Studios. Recently the Blitzgear team had a photoshoot at the studio to show our recent support for the Canucks in the Playoffs.

The Canucks’ NSX car has had quite a good journey especially this playoffs. The car was actually launched during Game 7 of the Canucks-Blackhawks Series, which was quite a gamble. The car started with 3 “kill decals” of the Blackhawks, which represented every win. It was quite ceremonial to stick on the fourth one on that fateful day. The car would usually be driven around before every game to the delight of the fans. Part of the pre-game ritual would be to drive around the Rogers Arena, which got harder and harder to accomplish as the games generated bigger and bigger crowds.

Since then, the Canucks car has been featured on Canucks.com, Breakfast TV, numerous newspapers, and we’re quite proud of the achievement.

Jacob Ung, the chief designer of the car, mentioned in the Canucks.com article, “We hope that the car can be a part of having Vancouver believe that this is the year we bring home the Stanley Cup. So three more rounds to go, and a bunch more ‘kill decals’ to add. We would also like to bring some added recognition for other members of the Canucks, and not just their leaders.”

Since the car was so iconic during the playoff’s, many Canucks-related events would invite us to bring the car as well, such as this Canucks 1994 Reunion at the RiverRock Casino in Richmond.

The Canucks’ NSX’ first official TV appearance was on Breakfast Television Vancouver, and you can watch the segment here.

Another big break for the car is when they were invited to make an appearance at the YVR Airport for the Canucks’ Appreciation event, where we excitedly took photos of fans with the car, and with the special guest – Fin!

Just to mention, part of the ritual of the Canucks’ NSX car was also to await the Canucks’ arrival from away games at the YVR airport. Another cool fact is that the Canucks’ NSX was never driven in the airport, as part of their policies! So, the car was pushed around – which is quite a site for fans and travelers from all around the world.

As part of our dedication to help the community, we used the fan vehicle as a channel to generate interest about the Canucks Autism Network. Please continue to support this great cause.

Aside from all these, the Canucks’ NSX Fan Car was also featured in Ming Pao Van newspaper, The Province, and again on Breakfast TV after the season was over. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Canucks for a great season, everyone who has supported the Canucks and our fan car project.

June 17, 2011 – Whitebox Studios. Talented illustrator Murilo Maciel has done lots of creative illustrations for companies, as you can see on his website.

This illustration was for Mizuno USA. The model was photographed at the studio, and Murilo creatively created the post-production and the background. He also posted about this illustration on his blog.

June 16, 2011 – Whitebox Studios. Ami Sanyal recently photographed Arthur Tiojanco at Whitebox Studios for String Magazine.

Arthur Tiojanco is a talented breakdancer. He’s currently a part of Praise Team faculty, a dance and theatre arts ministry composed of young dedicated Christians.

June 14, 2011 Whitebox Studios. Blitzgear Inc. recently had some commercial photography shoots at the studio for their own rebranding.

Our mother company, Blitzgear, provides a variety of services including marketing, designing, printing and now, fulfillment services. It’s a brilliant idea to have a “one stop shop”, which is in line with their new tagline, “We’re all in.” This integration has been creating very effective and cost-efficient solutions for small and medium businesses, which testify to the strategies the company has made. They’re still currently modifying the site, but go ahead and take a quick visit!

Here’s a quick behind the scenes shot of the setup with our graphic designer Joe Tiongson and art director/stylist Jose Capili.

While we’ve had tons of clients bringing in different sets and backgrounds, and of course you can make the background gray, white, or black, the team decided to use white to match the branding of the site.

Dan Jackson, a Vancouver Photographer, also part of CAPIC Vancouver, is having his 3rd Annual Exhibit and Cocktail Party entitled “Le Salon: Classical Depictions Unecumbered by Reality”.
