Last Tuesday, April 12, 2011, Whitebox Studios hosted its first photographer networking event called Whitebox Studios. Over 100 photographers from all over Lower Mainland came out to meet and greet, check out our studio space, and even win some prizes! We were very grateful for all the support that we received from everyone.
The event was hosted by John Biehler, a well-known and well-respected photographer and blogger doing technology reviews. The event started at 6:30PM with our presentors Helping Hearts, photographers Melissa Knowles and Jessica MacMhuirich. Before 7 the studio was packed with photographers, photography enthusiasts, make-up artists, and other creative industry people. We were excited to introduce our sponsors Dave Seeram from PhotographyBB and Kevin Lai of VPN. PhotographyBB (“Photography Bulletin Board” shared a little bit of how they started out as a forum, a quick source of information for digital SLR photographers, and to where they are today – a full-fledged online magazine, with writers and readership all over the world. VPN or Vancouver Photo Network, as the name suggests started out as a photography club and now they are looking to expand their offerings to innovative photography accessories that they introduced that night as well.
After an hour of networking, chatting, and touring around the studio, Whitebox Studios and our sponsors gave away some prizes. PhotographyBB gave out 2 David duChemin books, a Canon Lens Mug, and a USB key that has PhotographyBB Photoshop Actions, through a tweetoff where the 1st, 5th and 10th tweet would win! Then we had the VPN contest which did not require being on Twitter, but based on what people had that night, like the longest lens, oldest camera, etc. They gave away a camera bag, shoulder strap, gear belt, and a flash bag. Whitebox Studios gave away 3 creative studio rentals through the business card draw. Our lucky winners were Melissa Knowles, Stephanie Schumann, and Jason Statler.
